Son oeuvre marque une étape décisive dans l'histoire de la comptabilité. Dans le Jones's English system of book-keeping ..., paru en 1796, il rejette la méthode italienne et propose un système anglais de comptabilité, système de journal-grand livre à colonnes pour une comptabilité en partie simple.
